Educational Grant

Participants must submit an electronic or handwritten application to the business office of the Heart of Iowa Communications Cooperative on or before Tuesday, April 1, 2025, by 4:30 pm. The application must state which college or vocational school the applicant plans to attend. He/she must list all extracurricular activities he/she has been involved in during his/her high school years. This list shall include school-sponsored, community, and church activities.

  • Parents or guardians of the educational grant applicant must have had Heart of Iowa Communications dial tone (voice) or Standalone LightNET service for at least six (6) months before the date of this notification and the applicant must be living with said parent or guardian in one of the Cooperative
    districts or Ventures exchanges listed below.
  • Participants must be going on to either a two or four-year accredited college or an accredited vocational school.
  • Participants must be a senior in good standing in both the school and community.
  • Participants must furnish a transcript of their grades along with the application.
  • If the Educational Grant recipient fails to complete at least one year of school he/she must repay to the Cooperative the $500 Educational
    Grant was awarded.
  • All applicants must submit a head & shoulder ONLY senior photograph with their application. Photographs will not be returned to applicants.

The Iowa Communications Alliance is pleased to announce the availability of two $2500 college scholarships.
Our mission is to assist students from rural areas across Iowa with financial assistance to pursue higher education and to stay in rural Iowa after graduation.

 Scholarship recipients will be selected and notified by May 1.

FRS Scholarship

The value of the scholarships ranges from $500-$7,000, based on a variety of criteria. One application qualifies a student for all available FRS scholarships.

The foundation annually awards scholarships to an exceptional group of rural students for their first year of college or vocational school. All applicants require sponsorship by an NTCA—The Rural Broadband Association member company to be eligible.

FRS has awarded over $1 million in scholarships since its inception; empowering rural students throughout the country to advance their communities with invaluable skill sets and experiences.

Scholarship Overview
The Aureon Scholarship Program is available to students pursuing a STEM-related course of study after high school graduation and residing in a home with service from an Iowa Independent Telecommunications Company (ITC).

The program will award a total of $10,000:

1 award of $3,000
2 awards of $2,000
3 awards of $1,000
The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. on March 1, 2025.

Youth Tour- Send Students on a Once in a Lifetime Experience

Since 1995, FRS has hosted the Youth Tour to thousands of high school students from across rural America. The Youth Tour is a chance for students to visit our nation’s capital and learn about rural broadband, share their community’s story with key legislative, regulatory, and government figures as well as a forum for them to meet and interact with their peers from other rural communities.

2025 Youth Tour: June 2-6, 2025.
