Heart of Iowa Communications Cooperative is proud to announce the formation of the Cooperative's NEW youth program...Y.A.C.! The NEW Youth Advisory Council represents an entirely new approach to getting "in touch" with rural Central Iowa youth in a way that will not only greatly benefit the participating students, but also area school districts and their educators, area communities and Heart of Iowa Communications' members. It's a WIN, WIN program for EVERYONE involved! The world is introducing new and better forms of communication technology everyday. Heart of Iowa Communications takes great pride in delivering these new cutting-edge products and services to Cooperative members and their rural Iowa families. Our area youth currently make up a huge segment of the population who not only use these new and upcoming technologies, but also create, develop and engineer these new products. Therefore, Heart of Iowa Communications Cooperative has embraced the concept of beginning to establish and nurture a strong relationship with the youth of our service area. The goals of the newly formed council will give area students the opportunity to express what they feel communication needs will be in the future, expose youth to current and newly emerging technologies, develop interest and retention of area youth for future economic development and employment opportunities, all while providing them with educational opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. Heart of Iowa's Youth Advisory Council will be made up of school/faculty appointed students from the school districts served by the Cooperative. These districts include BCLUW, East Marshall, South Hardin, Green Mountain-Garwin, and Marshalltown High School. Other school districts and/or learning institutions that may qualify to appoint students include, AGWSR, West Marshall, Gladbrook-Reinbeck and Marshalltown Community College. All appointed students are required to reside with a parent or guardian who has had Heart of Iowa Communications service for at least six (6) moths prior to January 1, 2009. The Cooperative is seeking area students ages 13 to 20 years of age that are currently enrolled as a full-time high school and/or full or part-time college student. Appointed students should be interested in areas of computer science and/or applications, computer programming, telecommunications, video production & editing, TV & Radio Broadcasting, computer web design and graphics, Virtual Reality 3-D imaging, architectural drafting, and other related opportunities and field trips. If your know a student, or are a student who would be interested in participating on this exciting new youth council, please see your School Guidance Counselor. It is the Cooperative's goal to recruit students from each school district served by Heart of Iowa Communications for the council.
